In 2011, artist Debbie Coombes began to paint under the guidance of her grandfather and senior Tiwi elder, as well as her mother. During this time she was able to perfect the way in which she conveyed Tiwi family ties in her artworks – a theme for which her art is now known in artistic circles.

Debbie Coombes’ joyful depictions of Tiwi life often portray people travelling by cars and canoes to the football, as it’s a huge part of the contemporary Titi lifestyle.
